the BUDDY movie

From Laughter to LEGENDS , we´ve all seen a BUDDY MOVIE. The film genre that features two (sometimes three) male or female characters who have different personalities, from which they develop a relationship. From then on, they become inseparable and their adventures begin. The contrast is what makes the movie. Mostly in american movies this genre had fruition on the last century. This are some of my favorite buddy movies.

From 1931 to 1951, Laurel and Hardy made one of the most impressive movie CONNECTIONS ever. Their legacy became MYTH and their movies are FOREVER, I recomend each and every one of their 106 films together. 

You can´t go wrong with them.

Bud Abbott and Lou Costello made 36 films together between 1940 and 1956. Abbott and Costello were among the most popular and highest-paid entertainers in the world during World War II.

From night clubs to radio to TV  and the MOVIES, in the 50´s  Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis were the HOLLYWOOD comedy duo.

The late Movie Director , Billy Wilder had a crazy idea in 1959 of joining, Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon in SOME LIKE IT HOT as two musicians (Joe and Jerry) in the prohibition Chicago ERA. After witnessing a murder, they escape from the GANGSTERS by dressing up as women and getting into an ALL WOMEN JAZZ ENSAMBLE where they meet non other than... MARILYN MONROE.

This timeless friends were Robert Redford and Paul Newman in not ONE but TWO unforgettable movies

BUTCH CASSIDY AND THE SUNDANCE KID

In the 70´s Gene Wilder and Richard Pryor made SILVER STREAK and became movie LEGENDS by combining both comedic CRAFTS, the craziness of WILDER with the Pryor wit, the teaming up of this two, would become a GENRE of its own, spawning an 80´s trend on police movies.

In the 80´s  Chevy Chase, Steve Martin and  Martin Short made THE THREE AMIGOS, when 3 former movie stars come to SANTO POCO in MEXICO to put on a show, only to find ALFONSO ARAU as EL GUAPO, Mexico´s most INFAMOUS villain who has a PLETHORA for PIÑATAS!!. 
John Landis best comedy, Its a movie must.



Dan Aykroyd and Tom Hanks 

DRAGNET  in this almost spoof of the sixties tv series, a young Tom Hanks plays  rebel detective Pep Streebek who meets JOE  FRIDAY (Aykroyd) a DO BY THE BOOK cop being trying to solve the mystery of a P.A.G.A.N. CULT .

THE GREAT OUTDOORS features them as inlaws Roman Craig and Chester "Chet" Ripley, desperate to proove who has more fun in a great outdoor vacation with the family. The plot has some unexpected twists as a bald bear and a raccon, but its a classic featuring two of my favorite comedians.

Tom Hanks and John Candy play the BAUER brothers in  SPLASH, the story of a man who finds a real life mermaid Played by Daryl Hannah.

 

John Candy and Steve Martin in "PLANES, TRAINS AND AUTOMOBILES" In the eve of THANKSGINIVNG DAY, Martin meets Candy when "all hell brakes loose" sharing a motel room, a BATHROOM, a car, a plane, bus tickets, a near death experience,  while trying to get "home for the holidays".

Danny Glover and Mel Gibson made LEATHAL WEAPON an unforgettable movie. One of the most spoofed couples in film history, mixing a loose cannon  and a soon to be retired cop.  What could go WRONG?

 Eddie Murphy is a thief who can identify a killer and Nick Nolte is the cop that has to watch him for "48 HRS" i dont know whose funnier Murphys sarcastic antics or Noltes way of ranting. i love this film!

In the 90´s Bruce Willis and Damon Wayans changed everything in  THE LAST BOYSCOUT .

Tony Scott´s masterpiece making a "Friday night´s a GREAT NIGHT FOR FOOTBALL" MOVIE  with some of the best quotes  as:

Alex Winter and Keanu Reeves in BILL AND TED´S BOGUS JOURNEY

The SEQUEL to a  MOST EXCELLENT ADVENTURE had to mix: rock, death, god, the after life, aliens, air guitars and evil robots...what´s not to like about a movie that has it all?

Mike Myers (WAYNE) and Dana Carvey  (GARTH) became household names in WAYNE´S WORLD translating their SNL skit to a film format.  QUEENS Bohemian Rhapsody became a TOTAL REQUEST in every video show.

In "ENCINO MAN", known in europe as "CALIFORNIA MAN" Pauly Shore ( Stoney) and Sean Astin (Dave Morgan), are a couple of friends trying to dig a pool in their back yard, only to find Brendan Fraser(LINK) a frozen caveman! Taking them from SCHOOL REJECTS to COOL  BUDS!

In "BIODOME" Bud "Squirrel" Macintosh (Pauly Shore) and Doyle "Stubs" Johnson (Stephen Baldwin)tells the story of a couple of friends trying to find a toilet and by mistake go inside an artificial ECOSYSTEM for a hole year. The STONER COMEDY of the CENTURY.

Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny Devito in 

TWINS as the worst science experiment  ever, They play Julius and  Vincent Benedict, one is an obnoxious freeloader and the other a muscular phenomena.

The late Chris Farhley´s best performance as Tommy Callahan in TOMMY BOY is a comedic masterpiece. Non other  had the physicality or the baby face humor as he did. And no other could make his sidekick as well as a smart-ass Richard Hayden (David Spade) They can´t stand each other but both get into a ROAD COMEDY antagonistic relationship trying to sell BREAK-PADS.

Weekend at Bernie´s To me, nothing is funnier than that which we would never do, this friends go for a weekend at their bosses beach house, only to discover he was murdered and don´t want to be blamed of the crime. So whats the obvious thing to do?? 
Make him appear ALIVE!


Kyle Gass and Jack Black in Tenacious D and the Pick of Destiny mixing everything above mentioned to bring a HEAVY METAL TALE of two buddies who find themselves between being NOTHING or LEGENDS. Thanks to a Legendary Guitar PICK that has helped other ROCKERS achieve this goal. With awesome cameos and epic METAL! this movie is one of the best buddy movies.
