If you wish

"No matter how bad or un-original your material is .....you get grace and there is nothing like performing it,over and over again, to oil yourself"
-Steve Martin

Always warm, almost as a real close realative. He is one of Hollywood´s faces who is always present in our minds.

Stephen Glenn "Steve" Martin was born on August 14, 1945 in Waco, Texas, but was raised in Inglewood, California by his parents Mary Lee and  Glenn Vernon Martin a real estate salesman and aspiring actor.

At 10 years old he began working at Disneyland, selling guide books and making tricks in Frontier Land  as a cowboy. He then sold magic tricks at the Main Street Magic Store.

After 3 years working there he left Disneyland for Knotts Berry Farm. The security guard told him that day Steve was leaving the park, "dont walk through the castle they are taking photos". He found out many years later that the great american photographer Diane Arbus was taking photographs of the Disney Castle.

"Maybe she saw it like i did ,it is gorgeous and it still is"
-Steve Martin

DIANE ARBUS (1923-1971)
A CASTLE IN DISNEYLAND, CAL. 1962

He bought joke books, he played the banjo and then went to Santa Ana Junior college , took many courses in english poetry and studied Philosopy. A former girlfriend gave him a book called "The Razor´s Edge"it  changed his life forever.

"T.S. Elliot taught me the intelligence of words,
Dylan Thomas taught me the bauty of words,
E.E. Cummings taught me the rythm of words."
-Steve Martin

At 21 years old he started as a writer for the Television Show "The Smother Brothers Comedy Hour" because they were looking for young writers. A year later CBS cancelled the show.

He got influenced by Jerry Lewis, Stan Laurel, Nichols and May, Bill Cosby .

"I have two landmarks in comedy, first Richard Pryor, who used obscene language as poetry and secondly, Sam Kinison"
-Steve Martin

In the mid-1970s, Martin made frequent appearances as a stand-up comedian on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson. and on The Gong Show, HBO's On Location, The Muppet Show, and NBC's Saturday Night Live (SNL). SNL's audience jumped by a million viewers when he made guest appearances, and he was one of the most successful SNL hosts ( fifteen times) second only to Alec Baldwin, who has hosted sixteen.

"Question things? learn to question things...so i question comedy always"
-Steve Martin

By the end of the 1970s, Martin had acquired the kind of following normally reserved for rock stars, with his tour appearances typically occurring at sold-out arenas filled with tens of thousands of screaming fans. But unknown to his audience, stand-up comedy was "just an accident" for him; his real goal was to get into film

My 10 favorite Steve Martin FILMS are:

1) In 1979, Martin co-wrote and starred in The Jerk, directed by Carl Reiner.

2) The Man with Two Brains is a 1983 American science fiction comedy film directed by Carl Reiner and starring Steve Martin and Kathleen Turner.

3)All of Me is a 1984 fantasy comedy film directed by Carl Reiner and starring Steve Martin and Lily Tomlin. This film is based on the novel Me Two by Edwin Davis

4) In 1986, Martin joined
fellow Saturday Night Live veterans Martin Short and Chevy Chase in ¡Three Amigos!, directed by John Landis, and written by Martin, Lorne Michaels, and singer-songwriter Randy Newman. It was originally entitled The Three Caballeros and Martin was to be teamed with Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi.

5) In 1987, Martin joined comedian John Candy in the John Hughes movie Planes, Trains and Automobiles.

6)Roxanne, the film adaptation of Cyrano de Bergerac which Martin co-wrote, won him a Writers Guild of America Award. It also garnered recognition from Hollywood and the public that he was more than a comedian.

7) In 1988, he performed in the Frank Oz film Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, a remake of Bedtime Story, alongside Michael Caine.

8) Martin starred in the Ron Howard film Parenthood, with Moranis in 1989.

9) He later re-teamed with Moranis in the Mafia comedy My Blue Heaven (1990)

10) In 1991, Martin starred in and wrote L.A. Story, a romantic comedy, in which the female lead was played by his then-wife Victoria Tennant.

He is one of my favorite comedians, because he embodies the Every day man, he is everyone, he is like no one else. He is unique. He makes you laugh like no other, he is a true comedy legend. His movies are epic. The one thing that prooves me i´m right , see how many have copied him through the years. A comedy genius.

"You create tension by telling a joke or a story, then with the punch line you release the tension....my comedy is like .....what happens when you don´t release the tension??' let the audience laugh when they wanna laugh, let the audience pick their laughing spots."
-Steve Martin
